Drama Club

The Drama Club of the college is a well-established club that encourages dramatic presentations by students in the form of skits, mime, plays etc. Eminent theatre personalities are invited to give lectures on the new trends in theatre. Theatre workshops are conducted in order to explore the possibilities for interdisciplinary linkages between different forms of performing arts. The Club is designed for students interested in learning more about the aspects of theatre. It provides platform to students who has talent, confidence and passion to do something unique. Drama Club promotes communication skills, teamwork, dialogue, socialization, stages terminology, working on acting skills, etc. It stimulates the imagination and creativity; it develops the better understanding of human behavior and empathy with situation. The Drama club also trains students in the theory and practice of theatre arts, including voice modulation, dialogue delivery, body language and flexibility, expressions, spatial coordination, stage-timing, improvisations, impromptu performances, stage direction etc.

Aims and Objectives

  1. To equip the students to read drama scripts and understand main ideas and details in different kinds of dramatic scripts.
  2. To enable the students to be capable of writing dramatic scripts for different purposes and audiences.
  3. To foster in the student the talent to perform in front of an audience in a complex culminating task
  4. To help students to manipulate body movements and facial expressions and convey appropriate emotion and meaning in dramatizations
  5. To gain expertise as an actor, playwright, director, costume designer, prop designer, musical and editing works
  6. To prepare students for the university level competitions (Drama, Mime, Skit, Monoact, Mimicry etc.)

World Theatre Day
The Drama Club of the College organized World Theatre Day by organizing a small talk on World Theater and by screening Shakespeare’s renowned play ‘ Hamlet’ on March 27 2024 , 10 am at ORICE hall. Brahmadathan M P, the student co-ordinator, gave a brief talk on the play and its relevance in World Theatre, Sri Vijayan N, Vice Principal and Dr Kala of Dept of Malayalam gave the felicitations.

 

Drama Club volunteers at International Theater Festival of Kerala (ITFOK 2024)
The students of the Drama Club volunteered at the International Theatre Festival of Kerala 2024 organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in January 2024. They were able to learn much from the rich repository of experience and it opened to them a world of new
possibilities in theatre and performing arts. They were also able to interact with various theater artist from across the world.

 

Talk by Vinod V Narayanan- Prelude to Contemporary Indian Theatre
The Drama Club invited Sri Vinod V Narayanan, Faculty of School of Drama, University of Calicut for a talk on ‘ Prelude to Contemporary Indian Theatre’ on Nov 29,2023 at 10 am in ORICE hall. The talk opened up vistas of Indian theatre and its various stages of evolution.
The students were able to assess and analyze the various aspects of theatre and performance arts too.
