Best NSS Unit and Programme Officer

The NSS unit No. 98 of the college was adjudicated as one of the best NSS units of the University of Calicut in 2017 – 2018. The Programme Officer of unit no. 98, Dr. Sijo Varghese C., also received the best PO award in Calicut University. The awards were presented to us by the Hon’ble Vice – Chancellor of the university Dr. K. Muhammad Basheer, during the NSS award ceremony. The creation of durable assets and the formation of human banks for public welfare were the outstanding achievements of the unit.

National Young Leaders Award

The NSS unit No. 98 of the college bagged the prestigious National Young Leaders Award 2015 – 2016 and secured first position in the University of Calicut. Dr. Sijo Varghese C., NSS Programme Officer of unit no. 98 of the college received the award from the Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor of the University of Calicut Dr. K. Muhammad Basheer on 29 March 2017. The unit received Rs. 50,000/- as prize money for the programme development of NSS activities. The NSS unit was adjudicated for this award for carrying out 282 hours of regular work during the academic year 2015 – 2016.

National Level Recognition of Two Social Action Projects

The NSS unit was selected one among the eight institutions in India for carrying out Active Citizen’s Programme by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and British Council. The NSS active citizens carried out five social action projects and they were being evaluated at the national level.  Out of 40 projects carried out by various institutions at the national level, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and British Council selected only seven projects as part of the Active Citizen’s Programme India Pilot 2017. The NSS unit of Sri. C. Achutha Menon Govt. College, Thrissur, bagged two projects out of seven at the national level: The selected Social Action Projects include: Voice/Scribe/ Companion Bank for the Blind and Adventure Camp of the SoS Children. The award was instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and British Council and Dr. Sijo Varghese C. NSS Programme Officer and Master Facilitator of Active Citizens Programme received the certificate on behalf of the NSS unit of the college on 13 July 2017 in a function held at the office of the British Council, New Delhi. Dr. Sijo Varghese C., presented the winning social action projects to the public who attended the exhibition as part of the official launch of Active Citizens India Programme 2017 at the office of the British Council, New Delhi.
